The 26th Asian Seed Congress (ASC2019) was held on the 25th to the 29th November in KLCC. The 5 day event includes many activities starting with Charity run for KanWork and ending with Post congress Tour on the 29th. Malaysia is honored to be able to host such an event. 2 prominent Malaysian, Dr. Chua Kim Aik (Private Sector Award) and Tuan Hj. Mohd. Nasir Warris (Public Sector Award) was honoured due to their contribution to the advancement of Malaysian seed industry.

The next Asian Seed Congress will be held in Shenzen, China.
Pre-Asian Seed Congress 2019 - Site Visit to Selangor Fruit Valley

Asian Seed Congress 2019 Site Visit and Food Tasting 
14th August 2019 @ Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC), Malaysia 
A site visit and food tasting was conducted on the 14th August 2019 at KLCC. The objective was to confirm the layout of the halls, to delegate task between APSA and NSAM members and to review the food that will be served at ASC2019. In the morning session, a meeting was held to resolve outstanding issues between APSA, NSAM, and KLCC management. this is followed by food tasting and review. After lunch a walking tour was conducted to view the halls, to confirm the flow of traffic, and to view overall facilities.

The site visit was attended by 8 members from NOC, 1 representative from MOA, 5 members of APSA, and 2 representative from KLCC.

25th Asian Seed Congress - Manilla, Philippines 
12th - 16th November 2018 @ Manilla Marriot Hotel, Philippines 
The 25th edition of the Asian Seed Congress was held at the Manila Marriott Hotel, 12–16 November, 2018. APSA’s annual Asian Seed Congress is the largest and most significant seed industry event in the world, and is a prime opportunity to grow business, get noticed, generate deals and gain an edge in the most populous and lucrative region in the world.
         
Dubbed as the region’s most significant seed industry event, this year’s Asian Seed Congress was organized jointly by the Asia and Pacific Seed Association (APSA) and the Philippine Seed Industry Association (PSIA) with support from the Department of Agriculture and the National Seed Industry Council.
         
The event has gathered some 1,300 delegates from more than 50 countries for the annual gathering and the biggest trade exhibition for all commercial and non-governmental seed-related organizations, government agencies and research institutes involved in seed policy, research and development.
       
Representing NSAM to the congress were Prof Uma Rani Sinniah (President) and Dr Mohd Shukri Mat Ali (Vice President) of NSAM. Apart from NSAM delegates, Dr. Mohd Kamal Abdul Kadir (Director, Technology Commercialization and Business Centre) from MARDI also joined the congress. Malaysia will host the 26th Asian Seed Congress next year at KL Convention Centre. The National Organizing Committee agreement between NSAM and APSA had been signed in June 2018.

Asian Pacific Seed Association (APSA) President, Ms Brenda Dossey and NSAM President, Prof. Uma Rani Sinniah, signed a National Organizing Committee (NOC) agreement to confirm cooperation to co-organize the largest regional seed industry event in 2019, the 26th Asian Seed Congress.
     
The 25th Asian Seed Congress, which is set to be held in Manila, the Philippines 12-16 November, is co-organized by APSA and the Philippine Seed Industry Association (PSIA), who chairs the NOC for this year’s event.
     
Last year’s ASC was held in Bangkok, Thailand — coorganized by APSA and the Thai Seed Trade Association — and previous editions have been held in various cities throughout the APSA territory; namely: Chiang Mai and Pattaya, Thailand; Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Goa in India;  Brisbane, Australia; Shanghai and Macau, China;  Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei; Seoul and Incheon, Korea, Bali and Jakarta, Indonesia, Chiba and Kobe, Japan.

This will be the second time that Kuala Lumpur hosts the exclusive seed industry event. The first time was in 2006.

 ~ 2016 ~

9th National Seed Symposium  
23rd - 24th August 2016 @ Sama-Sama Hotel KL International Airport, Malaysia 
NSAM in collaboration with Jabatan Pertanian, MARDI and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) held the 9th National Seed Symposium 2016 vanue at the Sama Sama Hotel KL International Airport which was officiated by YBhg. Dato’ Ahmad Zakaria bin Mohamad Sidek, Director General of Agriculture, Department of Agriculture.
         
Also present at the opening ceremony were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Uma Rani Sinniah, the President of National Seed Association Malaysia, YBhg. Prof. Dr. Abdul Shukor Juraimi, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, UPM and YBhg. Encik Nor Hashim bin Ujang, Director Genebank and Seed Centre, Mardi.
         
The symposium, which lasted for two days witnessed the presentation of 18 papers among these, entitled ‘The Multifacet of Seed Technology Training: How Bright is the Future’ by Dr. Mohammad Selamat Madon from Universiti Malaysia Sabah, ‘Private Investment in Vegetable Seed Production in Malaysia’ by Mr. Joep Van Balen, Product Development Manager Asia, Enza Zaden, ‘Production of Quality Planting Material in Herbs’ – Indian Experience by Dr. Anuradha M, Padmashree, Institute of Management & Science, India and ‘Evaluation of Paddy Seed Quality and Longevity with Chlorophyll Fluorescence Imaging’ by Ms Patcharin Taridno @Ann Patchourin, Director, Research and Technology Development, Rhino Research Group, Thailand.

The Symposium also gave tribute to Emeritus Prof. Dr. Chin Hoong Fong, (Department of Crop Science, UPM and Bioversity International) who is considered as the father of Seed Technology in Malaysia, entitle: Four Decades of National Seed Symposium (1976-2016) History, Progress and Achievements).

 ~ 2015 ~

Malaysian-Turkish Seed Sector Meeting 
29th October 2015 @ The Westin Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 
NSAM had organized a Malaysian-Turkish seed sector meeting between seed companies as well as agencies in Malaysia and seed companies from Turkey under TSUAB on the 29th October 2019 at The Westin, Kuala Lumpur.
         
TSUAB – Seed Industrialists and Producers Sub-Union of Turkey is a professional organization having a status of public corporate body in Turkey.  This association has 683 members consisting of mainly companies as well as agriculture cooperatives and public economic enterprises. The members of Turkish Sub Union of Seed Industrialist and Producers (TSÜAB) are leading producers and have developed expertise in the areas of crop yeild improvement, variety improvement, registration of varieties, producing and packaging of seeds in both local and international markets.In facilitating business networking between the companies and partner countries, a Malaysian-Turkish Seed Sector Meeting was held on 29th October 2015 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
         
About 50 people participated in the program from Turkey consisting of TSUAB member 36 companies and authorities from the Turkish Ministry of Economy and Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock. From Malaysia, 30 people participated consisting from several seed companies and government agencies such as MARDI, Department of Agriculture, Sin Seng Huat Seeds, Green World Genetics, Chemiseed, Prinsip Hijau and Elite Scientific Instruments.
       
The meeting was officiated by YBhg Dato' Ahmad Zakaria Mohamad Sidek, Director General of Department of Agriculture, Malaysia. Papers on Seed Sector in Malaysia, Role of MARDI in the Malaysian Seed Industry, Current Status Relating to Seed Policies in Malaysia and Seed Sector in TURKEY” were presented before the business matching meeting. The participants had the chance to visit MARDI Genebank and Research Facilities and GWG on the 30th October 2015. NSAM wish the meeting had furnished seed companies from both countires with the opportunity for new connectionsas well as business and research collaboration.
