Salam sejahtera and greetings to all,
Representing the National Seed Association Malaysia’s (NSAM) executive council members, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone, especially the NSAM members to this website. This website intents to serve as a connecting platform for the members in particular and others as the website highlights information on the upcoming events and also provides a sneak peek to events organised by NSAM in the past. Our signature event has always been the National Seed Symposium held once every two years. The next one will be held in 2020. Seed production and supply of quality seeds is a mega business and is a subject of interest to many as seeds are the most efficient means of propagating crops, maintaining and transmitting genetic improvements made by plant breeders. Although the association is called the National Seed Association, our members also consist of those in the planting materials industry such as nursery owners, seedling producers inclusive of tissue culture based companies. Hence in our context “seed” refers to planting material. |
NSAM aspires to link all the relevant players, the industry, government agencies, universities, research organizations, etc. to be together, ensuring better communications in steering the seed and seedling industry in Malaysia. It is with great pleasure I hereby declare that to date NSAM has about 180 members of which 20 are seed companies with corporate membership. You know what? NSAM is very unique as we only offer life membership at RM 100 for individual membership and RM 1,000 for corporate membership. This is not only cheap but also very convenient as no reminders are required to pay up membership, hence what are you all waiting for, come and join the unique NSAM family.
I must acknowledge the man who was behind this association, the late Emeritus Prof. Chin Hoong Foong, who envisioned the seed community via the 1st National Seed Symposium held way back in 1976. Tirelessly he kept this light burning until NSAM was formally registered in February 2008. As his ardent mentee, it has become my mission to carry the flag in helping the nation towards a dynamic seed industry. With me there is a group of highly motivated individuals and looking forward to a more significant contribution by these energetic, creative and innovative team members. I hope that in the coming years we will witness many exciting achievements for the society. NSAM is well known in the international arena, we have already signed a MoU with the Turkish Seed Association and we are a strong member of the Asia Pacific Seed Association (APSA). |
Last but not least, NSAM hopes that members will continue to provide full support in the activities organized by the association. Let us together bring NSAM and Malaysia to be a well-known country in the seeds arena.
